Alcoa Alumina Refinery

Rod Mill No 9, Discharge end / bearing Journal. Fracture measured some 800mm and was growing rapidly. Oil loss was getting up to 300Litres daily. Metalock of Australia P/L repaired unit with 3 Masterlocks in high tensile material together with 16 sets of No. 5 L Metalocks [12 sets were 5 deep with a further  3 sets 4 deep then 3 sets 3 deep as fracture depth decreased] Preparations took a few days – repairs on site 6 days with 3 crew. Repairs included cracktest, plating / sealing area prior to repairs and hand finishing on journal. Rod mill went back into affect almost immediately after repairs – no fluid loss – Alcoa’s engineers very happy with repair and time-frame being maintained.
